CineKink Announces Award Winners at Annual Kinky Film Festival
NEW YORK, NY; March 9, 2016 – Rounding out multiple days of screenings and parties in its thirteenth annual appearance, organizers for CineKink NYC/2016 announced the recipients of awards in a range of categories during the film festival’s closing celebrations held on Sunday, March 6, 2016
“The overall quality of the films was consistently high this year,” noted Lisa Vandever, CineKink co-founder and director, as she presented the awards. “Congratulations not just to the winners tonight, but to all of the works for being part of such a stellar line-up!”
Audience Choice Awards for CineKink 2016 were given to “The Red Umbrella Diaries” (David Kornfield) for Best Documentary Feature, with “Schnick Schnack Schnuck” (Maike Brochhaus) winning for Best Narrative Feature, and an Honorable Mention award going to “Sector King Zulu King” (Maria Beatty and Nickel Dakota).
In the shorts competition, juried festival awards went to “Feminist Porn Filmmakers” (Lora Hristova) for Best Documentary Short, “An Appointment with My Master” (Erika Lust) for Best Narrative Short, “Pepper” (Patrick Aubert) for Best Dramatic Short, “Dad in Mum” (Fabrice Bracq) for Best Comedy Short, “Locked” (René de Sans and Mamana) for Best Experimental Short, and “RITES” (Bunnyz) for Best Musical Short. Honorable Best Mention awards were presented to “Everybody Does It” (Meg Brotherton), “I Am a Tourist I Would Like to See Him Naked” (Margie Schnibbe aka Vena Virago) and “Wild Lovers” (Isabel Dresler). A special CineKink Festival Award for Outstanding Creative Vision was announced for “Clitorissima” (Giovanna Carla Gia Balestra AKA Vulvah van Klitt, with animation by Sara Koppel)
Determining the shorts awards, CineKink jurors this year included Viviane Tang, ring-leader of the sex blog “Viviane’s Sex Carnival,” Bill Woods, a film festival programmer and curator of the New Filmmakers series at Anthology Film Archives, and Charles Lum, an alumnni CineKink filmmaker.
The annual CineKink “Bring It!” award, determined by audience ballot during a presentation of excerpts showcasing current adult cinema, went to “Houseboy” (Pandora Blake).
The CineKink Tribute, recognizing extraordinary depictions of kink and sex-positivity in mainstream film and television, was presented to the series “Broad City” (Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson/Comedy Central), for its “affirmation that women have raging libidos equivalent to that of any guy.” Honorable mentions for the CineKink Tribute went to the television series “Inside Amy Schumer” (Amy Schumer and Andy Powell/Comedy Central) and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna/The CW), and to the feature film “Magic Mike XXL” (Reid Carolin/Warner Bros. Pictures). Works eligible for consideration this year were those released or aired in the United States from January 1 until December 31, 2015.
Making its 13th annual run March 1-6, 2016, CineKink NYC featured a specially selected program of films and videos that celebrate and explore a wide diversity of sexuality. Billing itself as “the kinky film festival,” the event is dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television. With offerings drawn from both Hollywood and beyond, works presented at CineKink NYC ranged from documentary to drama, comedy to experimental, mildly spicy to quite explicit – and everything in between.
Sponsors of CineKink NYC/2016 included PURE, along with Bowery Bliss, KinkyMedical.net and njoy, plus Leather Archives & Museum, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, Purple Passion, Pleasure Salon and Conduit.

CineKink Choice awards, which go to feature-length works in competition during the festival, were determined by audience balloting at the close of each eligible work’s screening. The 2016 award winners are:

THE RED UMBRELLA DIARIES
Drawing upon the stories of seven diverse New Yorkers, all working in different sectors of the sex trade, this documentary digs deep into the personal experiences of people who trade sex for a living, and illuminates the complexities and contradictions that sex workers face as they try to do right by themselves and people they care about. (Directed by David Kornfield, 2015, USA, 99 minutes. Storytellers include anna saini, Audacia Ray, Ceyenne Doroshow, Dominick, Essence Revealed, Page and Sailor.)
CineKink Choice Award for Best Narrative Feature:
SCHNICK SCHNACK SCHNUCK
A refreshingly up-to-date and sun-dappled homage to 1970s porn, this charming farce combines explicit sex with a playful take on relationships, love, sex and jealousy. Here‘s the skinny: Felix plans to spend the weekend at a music festival in Amsterdam with his buddy, Kai. Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Emmi, ought to stay home and grade papers. But commitment is not exactly Kai‘s strongest suit, and then Emmi‘s high school friend, Magda, turns up with some intriguing revelations. Naturally, things get a little out of hand—and everybody is naked in the end! (Directed by Maike Brochhaus, 2015, Germany, 84 minutes. SECTOR KING ZULU KING
Through boot camp to the battlefield, three female soldiers are prepared to face the enemy. Armed with the required instruments and the mindset to carry out their objective, the destruction and violence that awaits them will set their scene just fine. And as crude devices for sexually-inspired discipline, their guns and ammo may serve them well. (Directed by Maria Beatty and Nickel Dakota, 2016, USA, 58 minutes.
