CineKink Selects “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed” to Open Kinky Film Festival
NEW YORK, NY; June 27, 2024 – CineKink will present The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed as the “CineKink Season Opener” for the 21st anniversary run of its film festival, CineKink NYC, with screenings taking place August 1-4, 2024
Created by and starring New York filmmaker Joanna Arnow, the deadpan comedy follows a 30-something woman as time passes in her long-term casual BDSM relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family.
The selection represents a return to its roots for the festival, which grew out of the BDSM scene in New York two decades back. “The film struck a definite chord with me, and it will resonate with anyone who has navigated a dating world made even more complicated by the yearning for a particular kink,” said Lisa Vandever, CineKink co-founder and director.
Addressing her approach to BDSM in making the film, Arnow has said “In my experience, people into BDSM have to be triply communicative and respectful, and I wanted the film to convey that. In many films, BDSM just happens without conversation, which is unrealistic and unsafe. I think it can take an incredible amount of agency and power to be submissive, and I hope the film contributes to the onscreen representation of the submissive experience.”
The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed will screen on Thursday, August 1, 7:00 PM at The Wild Project (195 E. Third Street, NY, NY, 10009), where the majority of the festival’s screenings are also unfolding. Arnow will be on hand for a discussion afterwards.
The full CineKink NYC schedule will be announced in early July and tickets will go on sale soon after.
