What’s the difference between art and porn? The old joke is that “porn is in focus,” but it’s also an aesthetic distinction that is increasingly irrelevant. Just as more “mainstream” indie filmmakers are utilizing explicit themes and imagery in their works, a new school of directors working on the adult side of the industry are creating works that defy the porn clichés. Join us for a lively discussion of the blurring lines and sex on the silver screen!

Josh Bell is the film editor of Las Vegas Weekly, and has written about film and TV for About.com, FilmCritic.com and other publications. He blogs about movies, TV and comic books at joshbellhateseverything.com.
Lynn Comella is a Women’s Studies professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Comella has written extensively about sexual politics, the history of feminist sex toy businesses, and the women’s market for sex toys and pornography. She is a frequent media commentator and writes a monthly column for Las Vegas Weekly on sexuality and culture.
Vivian Darkbloom has been instrumental in establishing a narrative film division at the infamous porn studio, Kink.com, and is the director of Indietro, which won the CineKink 2011 Audience Choice Award for Best Narrative Feature, and which plays Saturday, 6/12 at 10 PM.
Lisa Vandever is the co-founder and director of CineKink, an organization that recognizes and encourages the sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television. She curates and oversees an annual film festival and touring series designed to promote and showcase such works.
